Shower Trim, Controls and Valves Guide

Most people like to begin with the trim–the controls you see on the wall–before moving on to the valve. You will need both, but let’s begin with the trim. The majority of showers and bath/showers use manual trim–if it’s not digital, it’s manual. Manual trim comes in a number of styles and finishes, but first you will need to select trim based on the type of shower you have: shower or bath/shower.

Build Your Own
If you decide to piece together your own bath/shower, you can choose each piece yourself from the bath spout and showerhead to the trim and any additional components like handshowers, rain showerheads or body sprays. You can coordinate the same style and finish across all components, trim and fittings, as well as faucets and accessories, or you can mix and match.

Choose a Kit
If you prefer a prepackaged option for simplicity and convenience, a variety of kits, from basic to multiple-component kits are available. In styles and finishes that match larger faucet and accessory lines, these line-matched kits take the leg work out of designing your shower. 

If you have a stand-alone shower space, your basic shower will have a showerhead and manual trim. You can choose the components and trim yourself or go with a prepackaged kit containing everything you need.
